Digital Art 2 is an in-depth study of the computer as a painting and drawing tool with Adobe Illustrator as the central application, augmented by Adobe Photoshop. The idea of 'digital painting' is a remediation or response to traditional oil, acrylic and watercolour painting. The first part of this course explores the painting techniques of the digital tool set as they imitate the traditional analog referents. Subsequently, the course moves to a modern understanding of mark making, addressing the digital canvas as a reality unto itself. Finally, students investigate digital painting as hypermedia - the computer itself is addressed in the form and function of the image.
