This course gives students a comprehensive understanding of the professional's role in providing support to individuals who have experienced victimization and trauma. Through an in-depth overview of various types of victimization experiences and the short- and long-term impacts of trauma across the lifespan, students will develop skills in providing evidence- and trauma-informed interventions and support to children, youth, families, and communities who have experienced victimization and trauma. Students will learn about trauma-informed systems and support, the principles of trauma assessment and intervention, case management, relevant referrals, and collaboration with inter-disciplinary professionals. A focus on integrating theory and research into practical and individualized recommendations and supports is emphasized.
