This course develops students awareness and understanding of the micro, mezzo, and macro implications of working with victimized individuals, and the shared responsibility of professionals and organizations in identifying, preventing, and intervening in these implications. Students will explore the potential impacts on professionals of indirect exposure to individuals experiences of victimization and trauma, with a particular focus on Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS). The role of the individual professional, supervision, and program/organizational policies in preventing, identifying, mitigating, and intervening in professionals experiences of STS will also be explored.
