The roles and responsibilities of professionals responding to child and adolescent victimization are varied, multi-faceted, and complex. Through an integration of theory, research, and practice, this course provides students with critical knowledge and skills in responding effectively when child and/or adolescent victimization has occurred. Through a comprehensive and critical exploration of specific types of child and adolescent victimization; risk and protective factors; the short- and long-term impacts of victimization; child and adolescent rights; the importance of families; social, legal, and systems' issues; risk and resilience; and cultural considerations, anti-oppression, and social justice, students will develop knowledge and skills regarding prevention, assessment, advocacy, interventions, and engaging relevant resources, supports, and collaboration.
