Pre-requisite: MUS. 305 Masterclass in Music Production 2
This course will examine advanced issues in audio production technology through lectures, theoretical discussion, demonstrations, practical application and research. Students will work alone and in groups to research and practice various microphone techniques, discover and share credible resources for audio production technology and techniques, evaluate the sound of various studio microphones, and participate in in-class workshops on audio production software. Students will be tested on their knowledge of the elements of sound (both the physical and perceptual properties), the various operating principals of professional microphones as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each in practice, stereo microphone techniques, digital audio technology fundamentals, the use of DI boxes in a studio environment, and note-taking techniques for music producers. This course is demanding and is recommended for advanced students who are uniquely interested in further study of audio recording, post production and distribution.
