In this course, students study the history and evolution of the TV commercial and how it has and continues to reflect our culture, showing us social trends and cultural style while selling everything from SUVs to the idea of energy conservation. As well as cultural issues, this course includes an exploration of technology's impact on the very idea of what we commonly think of as a TV spot and theorizes about what we can expect for the future. Students gain an appreciation for where we have been and where we are going with an understanding of the limitations and possibilities of this ubiquitous advertising medium.
