An introduction to the Ontario Building code (OBC) with a specific emphasis on Part 9, Structural Requirements and Inspections, including reading plans, building permit applications and difficulties confronting building inspectors. The course will also look at site plans, footings, foundation walls, concrete slabs on ground, roof and ceiling construction, floor and wall construction, brick veneer and structural components.
To be successful in this course:
You will need to come to the first class with a copy of the 2012 Ontario Building Code and the student manual for OBC Part 9: Building Envelope, both of which can be purchased at the north campus bookstore.
We strongly recommend that you have some experience with construction or Ontario Building Code.
You are prepared to spend 4-6 hours per week studying outside of class
