This course will introduce students to major body systems and their functions to gain the foundation and knowledge needed for all practical spa treatments and application courses. The course covers the basic foundation for understanding the human body and the mechanisms by which the body functions and will prepare students for subsequent courses, such as BSPA 104, 150, 154, 205, 251 and 256. Topics include the nervous system, circulatory system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, muscles, joints, bone structure, and a strong emphasis on the structure of the skin and nails. Students will learn how to analyze sin types, diseases, conditions and disorders. Reflexology, basic massage techniques, and aromatherapy will also be discussed while understanding the benefits and contraindications of treatments and techniques.
