This course examines popular song forms and structures through a selected analysis and practical application of the history of contemporary songwriting. Students develop context, practical comprehension of, and familiarity with, popular song forms and structures through analysis of both music and lyrics. Using a workshop format, students present their own compositions and demos as the base materials and will develop critical perspectives of their own work, and learn to apply industry standards on how to craft a great song.
