In this course students examine the history, purpose, discipline, and basic techniques of sport and performance psychology. Students are introduced to the basic concepts of sport and performance psychology including the characteristics of peak performance and barriers to performance. In addition, students are exposed to the psychological skills training (PST) techniques used to enhance performance in a variety of settings. Topics include but are not limited to anxiety and stress management, self-confidence, motivation, goal-setting, leadership, communication, imagery, focus and concentration, and group dynamics.
