Current Issues & Bugs:
The following are known issues with this feature in Blackboard Ultra. For workarounds and estimated fix timelines please refer to the Blackboard Ultra Issues and Workarounds document.
- Unable to export a single item from BB Ultra – You can’t export individual items from BB Ultra. This limits sharing with other instructors. If you need to share content or assessments with another instructor, you must export the entire course.
- Unable to export a single test from BB Ultra – You can’t export individual items from BB Ultra. This limits sharing with other instructors. If you need to share content or assessments with another instructor, you must export the entire course.
- Test pools/question sets within test don’t copy Ultra to Ultra – When you use the Copy Content feature to copy a test with a question pool from another Ultra course, the pool copies but it is empty (test questions not there).
- Tests with symbols in name won’t copy or import – If the Test or any item has a symbol (e.g. “&” or “#”) in the name, an error pops up and nothing will import or copy.
If you have a test in Blackboard Original that you want to move to Blackboard Ultra, there are three methods you can use. Which method you use depends on the question types in your test. Regardless of the method you use, it’s essential that you quality check your test after you bring your test into Blackboard Ultra.
- Method 1: Moving a single test using Blackboard tools
- Method 2: Moving all Tests and Pools using Blackboard tools
- Method 3: Moving a single test using Respondus (PC only) – coming soon
Method 1: Moving a single test using Blackboard tools
To move a single test from Blackboard Original, you must first export the test. This can also apply to Pools. To export the test:
- In the Course Menu, under the Control Panel, select Course Tools > Tests, Surveys, and Pools.
- On the Tests, Surveys, and Pools page, select Tests.
- Locate the test you want to export and to the right of the test name, select the Drop-down Arrow > Export to Local Computer. Blackboard exports files in a compressed zip format to your computer, typically in the Downloads folder. Do not open the zip file after it is downloaded.
- Go to the Blackboard Ultra course where you want to move the test. In the top-right corner of the Course Content area, select More options for course content ellipsis (…) > Import Content.
- In the Import Content panel select Import Course Content.
- In the Open File window, locate and select the test ZIP file you want to import, and then select Open. Blackboard displays an Importing course content message. Blackboard will send an email when the import process is complete.
- After your import is complete, you can find your test at the bottom of the Course Content area in an “Undeployed Tests” folder. You can move the test where you want it.
Method 2: Moving all Tests and Pools from Blackboard Original
To move all tests and pools from Blackboard Original, you must first export a file. To export the file:
- In the Course Menu, under the Control Panel, select Packages and Utilities > Export/Archive Course.
- On the Export/Archive Course page, select Export Package.
- Under File Attachments select “Copy links and include copies of the files in the course default directory” and “Copy links and include copies of the files outside of the course default directory“.
- Under Select Course Materials, select Tests, Surveys, and Pools and select Submit.
- Blackboard displays a status bar at the top of your page indicating that your request has been queued and Blackboard is preparing the export file. You will receive an email notification when your file is ready.
- Select Refresh to see the link for your download.
- To download the zip file, select the Drop-Down Arrow > Open. The file will download to your default downloads folder on your device. NOTE: Do not open the zip file. If you unzip the file, Blackboard may not be able to import it later.
