What is Ally?

What is Ally?

Blackboard Ally is an Accessibility Solution that integrates seamlessly with Blackboard Learn (LMS). It is designed to help make course content more accessible for all students.

Blackboard Ally scans files uploaded into your Blackboard Learn course and searches for common accessibility issues. With Ally students are able to download alternative accessible file formats such as HTML, Audio, and Electronic Braille. Providing students with more accessible content means they can choose the format that works best for them.

What content does Ally check?

Currently, Ally checks files in these formats:

  • Microsoft Word files
  • Microsoft PowerPoint files
  • PDF files
  • Uploaded HTML files
  • OpenOffice/LibreOffice files
  • Image files (JPG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BPM, TIFF)
  • WYSIWYG/VTBE content
  • YouTubeTM videos embedded in WYSIWYG/VTBE content
