My dream is simple: to live up to the name Bright! There are so many stories around the world that need to be heard but not everyone gets to share theirs. I want to shed light on those stories.
Since high school I’ve had a keen interest in digital storytelling. Between graduating high school and attending Humber, I spent six years as a production manager on film sets and facilitated culture-based programming in neighbourhood improvement areas. After spending time between these two jobs, I realized I could combine both passions. Culture and education merged with storytelling can be a powerful tool to share with the next generation of youth and young adults.
Having worked in the arts and culture community for many years, I decided to enhance my skillset and broaden my knowledge on different platforms of media. I researched Humber’s Media Foundation program and found it was the perfect fit. Not only did it help me develop a foundation for video production, design, and communication; the program also granted opportunities to immerse myself within the Humber community. Two of my classmates and I were asked to produce a promotional video for Humber’s YouTube channel about the Media Foundation program. Getting the hands-on experience helped me to move forward in my education and career.
In the Media Communications program I’m building on the skills I developed in the foundation program to further specialize in corporate video and audio. I plan to transfer to Humber’s Bachelor of Commerce, Digital Communications degree to deepen my understanding and hone in on my digital skills. After I graduate I want to travel to the Caribbean and capture different stories from various communities and share them with Canadian audiences.
Humber has given me the tools and opportunities that will ultimately benefit me beyond graduation. I can truly say that Humber is helping me turn my dream into reality.
