The classroom setting was the deal breaker; after attending university for a year, I decided the learning environment wasn’t ideal for me. I started to explore other options in pursuit of a postsecondary education. Humber College was the clear-cut choice and I decided to apply for the Bachelor of International Development.
The learning environment at Humber is unparalleled and second to none. I am able to learn the theoretical knowledge paired with practical application in the classroom through case studies and discussions. Additionally, there are plenty of opportunities outside of the classroom for professional development such as workshops, conferences, forums and training sessions. Humber selected me and a small group of students to attend the Sustainable Development Goals training session hosted by The United Nations through Humber’s International Development Institute and International Forum. The training session provided attendees with the tools for the advocacy and local implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
My professors are professionals that share not only their insight, but also act as connections to the industry. As a result, I was able to attend the Active Citizens Social Enterprise Program, which was launched by the United Nations Association in Canada and British Council Canada. This is just one of the many professional development opportunities I have been able to pursue thanks to Humber! Getting this exposure well before my work placement has been truly advantageous and is definitely giving me a competitive edge. I feel confident in my knowledge and skills, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for me!
