9:00am - 11:00am All New Faculty Welcome and Orientation

An introduction to Innovative Learning and the different teams that support faculty in curriculum development and delivery.
Teaching Excellence will facilitate a session specific to “The roles of teaching faculty” and highlight teaching supports available to all Humber Faculty.
In addition to the Teaching Excellence focused session, we will share a google site with resources specific to:

  3.  First Day Activities
  4.  EdTech bank

11:00am - 12:30pm Getting Started with Blackboard Ultra

This session focuses on the new Blackboard ULTRA dashboard and course navigation. Participants will learn how to apply the Humber template and create and send announcements and course messages in an ULTRA course. Also, we will look at the main content structures and tools available.

12:30pm - 1:30pm Lunch Hour Reflection: Work and Wellness in Winter 2022

In this interactive session, we will explore some of the challenges facing us at this point in the pandemic. We will consider strategies for navigating work and cultivating wellness amid uncertainty and change. 

These personal reflection sessions are live only events. 

1:30pm - 3:00pm Course Design and Delivery for Synchronous and Asynchronous Formats

This session will focus on how to design and deliver courses for ever-evolving learning environments and teaching contexts. Faculty will discuss and learn about strategies, considerations and tools related to humanizing the remote learning environment, and best practices when adapting instruction from online to in-person learning contexts.

3:00pm - 4:30pm Getting started with Microsoft Teams

Let’s start using Microsoft Teams in the online classroom! In this session, we’ll learn how to set up a Teams session and use powerful and engaging tools like video conferencing, chat, content sharing, and the whiteboard. Finally, we’ll learn how to take advantage of some of Teams’ accessibility features, including subtitles and automatic transcription.

09:30am - 11:00am Creating Content with Blackboard Ultra

Blackboard Ultra’s modern design provides an opportunity to create more inclusive, flexible learning materials. In this session, we will explore various types of content you can build in Blackboard Ultra, such as documents, uploads, links, and embeds. We will also review the methods you can use to organize your content.

11:00am - 12:30pm Creating Collaborative Learning Environments

In this session we will discuss strategies to foster collaboration in the in-person and online classroom, as well as share ideas of simple technology tools and activities to promote engagement and facilitate group work in synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.

12:30pm - 1:30pm Lunch Hour Reflection: Creating a Community of Learners

Creating community is important in all courses. When students feel like they belong to a community of learners, they feel engaged and are more likely to retain the course’s content and skills. The focus of this session is to present, reflect on and strategize the opportunities and challenges on how to create community and foster a sense of belonging for all students. The facilitators will present strategies that they have used to create community in face-to-face and online environments.

3:00pm - 4:30pm Using Panopto in Blackboard Ultra

Humber’s academic video platform, is now available for faculty to use within the new Blackboard Ultra LMS. During this workshop, we’ll learn what’s changed in Panopto between Blackboard Original and Ultra, how to use the portal, embed videos and quizzes, and setup student video assignments. Panopto is made for Ultra – and we’re excited to show you what’s new
