What is Contract Cheating?

Essentially contract cheating is having a third party (an essay mill, a friend, a family member, another student, or others) complete an assignment for a student who then hands it in as their own work.  It is fraud and it is dishonest.  Even more importantly, it can have a negative impact on learning since the student does not complete the required work for a class or course.

Why does Contract Cheating Happen?

Students sometimes feel pressure and may choose to take short cuts, like contract cheating, to meet a deadline or do work they don’t understand.  But bad choices can be avoided.  Accessing different supports within our programs and schools can help.  The writing centre, math centre, peer tutoring, counselling, faculty advisors, coordinators…..are just a few of the opportunities and resources students have to help them achieve success in their studies.
