Honorary Credential Nomination Procedure

Purpose:

To define the appropriate nomination procedure for members of The Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning (hereafter referred to as "Humber'' or "the College”) wanting to nominate honorary credential recipients.

Definitions:

Current Employee: A person employed by the College on a full-time basis or contract basis.

College Community: All students, staff, and volunteers of the College.

Credential: In the context of this policy, a credential would include any credential as recognized by the Ontario Qualifications framework.

Procedures:

1. General

1.1. Annually all members of the College community will normally be invited in September to submit nominations to the Office of the Senior Vice President, Academic, usually on or about by November 15th of each calendar year.

1.2. The selection committee (with cross-institutional representation) will review the nominations and present recommendations to the President on or about by December 20th of each calendar year.

1.3. The President will present the short-list of recommended recipients to the Board of Governors at the January Board of Governors meeting. The Board of Governors will select the recipients for the upcoming Convocation ceremonies.

1.4. The President's Office (or designate) will contact the recipient to determine if the recipient is willing to accept the award, be present at the Convocation ceremony and, address the graduates.

1.5. The Office of the Senior Vice-President, Academic will notify the nominator of the person who will be granted an honorary credential and notify other nominators of the status of their nomination.

1.6. In addition, each Academic Unit will be notified of the person who will be granted an honorary credential at each of their respective Convocation ceremonies.
