The College has a comprehensive Integrated Risk Management Framework process in place to identify, assess, manage and maintain strategic and operational risks to the College. Humber College Business Continuity and Emergency Management Plan

The College believes the safety and security of our community is paramount. As such, the College has established the Business Continuity and Emergency Management Program. Housed within the Department of Legal and Risk Management, the Business Continuity and Emergency Management (BC &EM) program ensures that the College is prepared to respond to emergencies that may occur. This is a collaborative and on-going process that involves College stakeholders and representatives as well as public and private organizations and partnerships.

The BC &EM program follows the spirit of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, 2006, the Ontario legislation that governs emergency management in the province. The program aligns with international, national, and provincial best practices and standards in business continuity and emergency management. The BC &EM program is applicable to all College Campuses, including the University of Guelph-Humber.

The College Emergency Response Plan (ERP) establishes the framework for emergency response. The ERP is based on the following objectives:

  • To ensure an effective response to emergencies, critical incidents or business disruptions
  • To provide a clear and integrated response structure to the Emergency Management & Business Continuity Program
  • To be compatible with relevant internal and external plans, procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines, including alignment with the Integrated Risk Management Framework
  • To serve as an instructive reference for designated CIRT members

The ERP ensures the College is prepared to respond to a wide range of emergencies, critical incidents, or business disruptions in a coordinated, timely and effective manner. The ERP guides decision-making, communication, and overall coordination of a response to support the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

The Colleges utilizes the Incident Management System (IMS) to manage control and coordination of emergency response activities in order to align with the City of Toronto and municipal first responders. For more information regarding the BC &EM program, please visit https://humber.ca/publicsafety/.
