Happy Pride Month 2022!
June is Pride Month and the Humber 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group is proud to present, for the second year, the Display Your Pride Contest!
Theme
This year’s theme is Pride is Political! Decorate your space in a way that acknowledges and celebrates the diverse histories, stories and political resistance of the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement and community.
We are committed to honoring the historical roots of Pride. Pride is a legacy of brave political struggles of the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement since the 1960s against heteronormative societal structures as well as state and police orchestrated violence. These struggles, led by queer and trans people of color, established a foundation for larger-scale cultural changes and better protection of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities under the law. As we celebrate Pride, we remember that a lot has been achieved and more remains to be done to nurture a just and equitable society free from discrimination and prejudice.
What to Do
Decorate your individual space to showcase the theme of the contest. Use images, show signs, or provide information about how the history of Pride has always been political. Spaces may include your work or study from home “office” space, balcony, backyard, or any other space you want to show off.
Creativity is strongly encouraged. We also encourage you to decorate your individual spaces through a sustainability lens.
Once you’ve created your display, take a photograph of it and submit it via the submission form below. Not a decorator? No problem! This year we will also be accepting original ZOOM or MS Teams background designs.
Try to have your Pride display up for June 15th, 2022: on this day, many of the GTA’s colleges and universities will be celebrating Display Your Pride. Please share photos of your display to social media on June 15th with the hashtags #DisplayYourPride #HumberPride2022 #PrideIsPolitical.
Contest Guidelines
• Contest commences on June 1, 2022 at 8:30am and ends June 24, 2022 at 5:00pm.
• Contest is open to all Humber & Guelph-Humber students, staff, and faculty.
• Submissions should be from individuals, not departments or faculties.
• Individual participants may only enter the contest once by submitting their photo(s) (max 3 photos) of their
space. If you are submitting more than 1 photo, please make sure they are attached as one document.
• If you are submitting an original ZOOM or MS Teams background of your creative work, please make sure
that the dimensions of the virtual background image file are 1920 (wide) by 1080 pixels (tall). The maximum
file size for a virtual background is 5MB.
• All submissions are final: no resubmissions are allowed.
• Submissions will be reviewed by Humber’s 2SLGBTQ+ ERG Pride Subcommittee.
• Three (3) winners for the Display Your Pride contest and One (1) winner for the Original Humber Pride
Background contest, will be selected and contacted on July 4, 2022.
• Top prizes will be gift cards to be spent at 2SLGBTQ+ businesses/Queer ally businesses in Toronto. Winners
will be sent a list of various businesses to choose from including Craig’s Cookies!
