Students increase their practical comprehension through an overview analysis of the music business marketplace, and are directed to develop critical perspectives of how and where they will build their own careers in the music industry, to aid them in developing a fully realized personal focus by the time they take the Music Business 2 course in their final year. Student musicians begin to see their career development from a self-employed, self-sufficient independent contractor point of view, integrating their musical or artistic abilities into the perspective of a small business entrepreneur. Practical models and actual examples from the working community are utilized as resource materials, with input from active and successful members of the current music industry. Attention is paid to current fundamental marketing strategies and branding.
