Celebrating Student Brilliance and a Meaningful Black Heritage Month at Humber

As the post-secondary sector continues to face significant challenges, including rapidly evolving workforce needs, shifting enrolment patterns, and ongoing financial pressures, Humber is responding with clarity and intention. We remain focused on what matters most: equipping our learners for meaningful careers and building end-to-end talent pipelines in industries that will power our future.

In moments of change, it is the success of students and alumni that reminds us why our work matters. Their achievements, both inside and outside of the classroom, reflect the brilliance we are building at Humber.

Humber’s ENACTUS team continues to gain momentum, with ReShade evolving from a student-led idea into a student-driven venture with meaningful real-world application. Their progress was further recognized through their selection into the League of Innovators 12-week Venture Program, successfully securing funding and validating the advancement made over the past year. The team is also preparing for regional competitions next month, carrying that momentum forward as they represent Humber’s spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.

At Humber, we are proud to honour and celebrate Black history, culture and excellence 365 days a year through learning and dialogue. During this year’s Black Heritage Month, the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) and the Black Student Support (BSSE) team curated an engaging roster of events aligned with the theme, Black Brilliance: Stories that Shape Us. These events created space for reflection, learning, and celebration across our community, fostering deeper understanding and connection.

Under the leadership of proud University of Guelph-Humber alumna and Dean of EDIB, Kimberley Daniels, the Office of EDIB, in partnership with BSSE, continues this work year-round. Together, they advance policies and initiatives that cultivate a more inclusive community at Humber and ensure that Black voices, culture, and excellence are meaningfully embedded in the life of our institution.

Our Humber Hawks have also been demonstrating excellence in remarkable ways. The Men's Curling team delivered a golden performance at the CCAA Championships in Regina, finishing the tournament undefeated and securing the gold medal with a 7-2 over the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Their composure, teamwork and determination were on full display in a championship performance.

Volleyball continues its legacy of strength, with the Women’s team sweeping George Brown in their post-season opener and the Men’s team defeating Durham to advance to the quarterfinals. Teyvan Blackmore was named OCAA Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, while Enzo Endres earned OCAA Rookie of the Year honours following an outstanding debut year. Both teams head into the OCAA Championships this weekend with well-earned momentum.

On the basketball court, the Women’s team secured a decisive win over Durham College, and the Men’s team advanced with a first-round victory over Fleming in OCAA qualifying play. Both teams now compete in the OCAA Quarter Finals this weekend, continuing a proud tradition of competitive excellence.

As we look ahead to March and the promise of spring, we also send our best wishes to the Humber Hawks Badminton team as they prepare for the CCAA Championships beginning March 5.

In every corner of our institution, our students continue to rise — as they lead with creativity, courage and care for one another. Their achievements remind us that even in complex times, there is so much to celebrate. It is their brilliance that shapes our future and guides our collective path forward.
