Starting Humber College’s next chapter, together

Let me begin by extending my warmest wishes to all Humber College students, faculty and staff. I’m so excited to join this special community. I’ve heard many good things about the people of Humber since I accepted my new position and during my time working in Ontario’s college system.

I am fortunate to be the first woman President and CEO of Humber College. I take that very seriously and hope that it inspires other women to strive for leadership positions at Humber, in our post-secondary sector and beyond.

Over the next months, I will be learning about the Humber community. As one of the newest community members, here’s a little bit about me. I’m a life-long learner and have spent my career in higher education often juggling work, family and learning to achieve my goals. I am joining Humber after serving as the President and CEO of Loyalist College in Belleville and, prior to that, I was in Newfoundland and Labrador as the President and CEO of the College of the North Atlantic. Those were both amazing places on my more than 30-year post-secondary journey that has brought me here, to the role of President and CEO of Humber College. One of the reasons I wanted to become the fifth President of Humber was how inspired I was by the college’s values and strategic priorities, and the way Humber helps its learners gain the knowledge and skills they need to lead and innovate. Humber is Canada’s pre-eminent college and I’m motivated to keep it at the forefront of polytechnic education in this country. I am also inspired by the welcoming and supportive culture at Humber where students, faculty and staff feel that they belong in this ever-changing world.

With the mass disruption in society today caused by the pandemic and climate change, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to take on the challenges faced locally, provincially, nationally and globally. I believe that Humber, with its remarkable students, instructors, faculty, Centres of Innovation and industry partners, is uniquely positioned and up to the task of responding to these challenges.

I am also looking forward to working for an institution with a demonstrated focus on addressing the most critical of social issues. Fostering and championing an equitable and inclusive environment, respect for Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing, and meaningful action to fight climate change are all part of Humber’s approach.

Here’s what I pledge during my time at Humber. I’m going to listen, learn, and with our leadership team, continue to build on the many successes the college and its community are already realizing. The support that Humber’s students and professional learners enjoy will remain a top priority under my leadership.

The next chapter of Humber’s history is still to be written and we will do so together – by supporting students, greening our infrastructure, building our research capacity, strengthening our industry partnerships and work-integrated learning opportunities, and cultivating healthy and inclusive learning and working environments.

I can’t wait to get started on building Humber’s future alongside all of you.
