Ontario College Certificate
Program Code: 01071
Campus: North
Length: 4 semesters
Humber’s Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) certificate program is designed to provide adults with intellectual disabilities (also known as developmental disabilities) the opportunity to experience college life, develop enhanced independence and connect with like-minded individuals. Our program is the first college program of its kind in Ontario and is a leader in building collaborative, inclusive communities that support and promote experiential and transformative learning. We want you to succeed, and we will help you to develop skills you can use at college, work, home and in the community.
Our goal is to give you opportunities to build your confidence, leadership skills and independence by getting involved with the Humber community while advocating for yourself in a supportive environment. We do this through positive role-modelling and by highlighting the unique value of each individual and the benefits that come from interacting and working with others.
While participating in courses with your CICE classmates, you will learn skills that promote independence in areas such as communication, self-awareness, advocacy, community and leadership.
In your elective courses, you will explore a wide range of program areas and interests. Some of the elective program areas include Culinary, Photography, Spa Management, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Journalism, Landscape Technician, Business, Police Foundations and many more.
All CICE facilitators and faculty are highly qualified professionals with extensive experience in the social service field specifically working with adults with intellectual disabilities.
This program is not available to international applicants.
In Semester 2, you will participate in a class and introduced to topics that focuse on preparing you for your community field experience for Semesters 3 and 4. In Semester 3 and Semester 4, you will participate in community field experience placements. One of those placements will be a co-operative education placement that could be on or off campus and the other will be a collaborative placement with your classmates that focuses on teamwork.
