Humber’s Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management graduate certificate program builds on the knowledge gained in your Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, or Physical Education undergraduate degree. The program offers comprehensive, practical hands-on instruction in:
- ergonomic assessment
- exercise prescription and delivery
- fitness assessment
- functional abilities evaluation
- group exercise leadership
- health and fitness management
- health and lifestyle counselling
- health promotion
- marketing and entrepreneurship
Students benefit from small group learning, led by expert faculty, many of whom are registered kinesiologists currently working in the health and fitness industry. Our advisory committee, which also includes registered kinesiologists, regularly reviews and updates our curriculum to ensure it remains at the forefront of industry developments.
This program prepares students to challenge the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario's entry-to-practice examination, as well as other certifications such as:
- Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) - Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP)
- Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) - American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) - National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
Our teaching approach combines theory and practice, equipping learners with the knowledge and skills required for their chosen career paths. As a result, our graduates have significantly higher pass rates on these examinations compared to the provincial averages for individuals who take the credentialing exams immediately after completing an undergraduate degree.

This program features three unpaid . Two take place on campus and the third takes place off campus. During the on-campus placements, students provide fitness assessments and testing, physical activity counselling and prescription services to Humber employees as part of the services provided via the Faculty of Healthy Sciences & Wellness Teaching and Learning Hub. Students can also run workshops. Throughout the on-campus field experience, students participate in seminars with their professors and classmates to critically analyze their experiences and develop the skills required for professional work.
The final field experience is a four-week placement off campus with one of Humber’s industry partners.

Admission Requirements
Admission selection is based on the following 3 requirements:

Academic
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent, in Kinesiology, Physical Education, or Human Kinetics including completion of the following courses:
- Human Anatomy
- Human Physiology
- Exercise Physiology
- Biomechanics
- Statistics/Research Methods
- It is recommended that students also possess at least one semester of the following courses:
- Psychomotor Behaviour or Motor Learning
- Introduction to Health and Wellness, or Epidemiology of Physical Activity
- Psychology of Sport, Psychology of Exercise, Sociology of Exercise, or Sociology of Sport
Mature Applicants
Diplomas and Certificates
An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.
Degrees
An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.
College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.
Degrees

Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

International Credit Evaluation
Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Program Requirements
Once accepted into the program, students must demonstrate a personal commitment to physical activity and healthy living, and possess the ability to fully participate in practical-based physical activity courses: resistance training, group exercise classes, cardiovascular training, plyometrics and flexibility training.
Practical courses, which take place in a lab, have a strict attendance policy, which is mandatory for successful completion of the course. Prospective students with special needs or limitations are encouraged to discuss their career goals with the program co-ordinator before applying.
Placement Requirements
The pre-requisite requirements must be fulfilled before the commencement of your first placement. Participation in placements will not be allowed if not all the pre-requisite requirements are met.
