Advertising - Account Management

Ontario Graduate Certificate

Program Code: 15051

Length: 3 semesters

Are you looking to hone your expertise in strategy, your creativity and your management skills to contribute to the fast-paced creative world of advertising?

Then a career in advertising strategy as part of account management is perfect for you. This course is interactive, with live clients, and anything but a snoozefest.

Humber’s Advertising - Account Management (AAM) is a strategy-focused graduate certificate program designed to prepare you to work in advertising agencies or marketing teams. In this long-running program, you'll learn to develop advertising and communications campaigns by leveraging brand strategy, digital planning, digital strategy and client-agency relationships. Through the lens of advertising strategy, you will develop a greater understanding of creative advertising as a whole.

This program is unique in that it develops skills from the advertising and creative side of the industry as well as the project management processes. As an AAM student, you will learn to work in teams to create and drive integrated communication plans designed to creatively reach target audiences. You will develop your presentation and communication skills to better liaise with creative and client-side teams. Additionally, you will closely examine digital and social marketing strategies, and learn how to work with business, creative and AI tools.

Your applied education includes strategic brand management, project management and our unique AdStudio classes where you will work with other postgraduate students to simulate an advertising agency. Replicating the ad industry itself, AdStudio allows students from the three advertising disciplines to work together in creative teams.

Just like in the real world. Only at Humber.

Engaging classes include many industry guest speakers, current communication challenges, in-class activities and case studies. A mix of in-class and a few online-only courses makes balancing work and school life a little easier.

You’ll use the skills you develop in your coursework during your Field Experience, a type of work-integrated learning that begins after the successful completion of all courses in May.

Humber’s approach to the practical application of knowledge will enable you to build confidence in your existing learning and move ahead. By incorporating people skills and critical thinking, you will acquire the essential knowledge to contribute to advertising and marketing teams.

As a graduate, you will be an asset in defining strategy in three key areas:

  • client relationships
  • creative strategy
  • process and project management and analysis

Ultimately, you will be able to solve specific advertising and marketing communications challenges by providing strategic insights into consumer behaviour. You will be able to link successful creative to client-success criteria, including return on investment (ROI and ROMI) and revenue goals, and to develop briefs that inspire grounded, effective and exciting works.

An in-depth understanding of integrated marketing communications and its relationship to business will help you succeed in this complex and challenging field.
