Bachelor of Interior Design

Honours Degree

Program Code: 22051

Campus: North

Length: 8 semesters

Humber’s Bachelor of Interior Design degree program balances creativity with sensitive and pragmatic design thinking. As a graduate of the program, you will be equipped to problem-solve, investigate and explore design environments where people thrive.

As a student, you will master an evidence-based design process, develop effective presentation skills and build vital professional practice knowledge through engaging interior design studios. Collaborative teamwork with your colleagues in the program reflects industry practices, preparing you to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Through observational field trips, you will connect key classroom theories, such as light, colour, sustainability, universal design, spatial perception and human interaction, with built environments. In the fourth year, you will engage with industry mentors to research, develop and document a large-scale interior design project from initial concept to construction documentation.

Additionally, a self-directed volunteer project will connect your passion for design with initiatives that provide environmental, social or economic benefits to both the community and the design industry. Previous students have partnered with organizations such as the Toronto District School Board, the Naval Reserves, Habitat for Humanity and youth and women’s shelters, making meaningful contributions while gaining valuable experience. Humber’s Bachelor of Interior Design program is dedicated to cultivating innovative designers who are prepared to meet the demands of the industry and excel in their careers.

Work-Integrated Learning courses serve as the vital link between academic learning and real-world application. Within this framework, students actively participate in the Professional Practice course, equipping you with the necessary skills and confidence to secure your own field experience. Throughout this journey, a dedicated Career & Work-integrated Learning Advisor offers personalized guidance and support.

In the summer semester between years 3 and 4, students immerse themselves in the Field Experience course, committing 420 hours of practical application within the field. Whether pursuing paid or unpaid opportunities, all experiences undergo approval by your Career & Work-Integrated Learning Advisor to ensure relevance.
