Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences

Honours Degree

Program Code: BM411

Campus: North

Length: 8 semesters

Embark on an exciting journey into the world of biomedical sciences with Humber’s Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) program in Biomedical Sciences, a dynamic path that blends scientific exploration with real-world application. This interdisciplinary program will ignite your curiosity and equip you with the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience needed to drive advancements in human health and medicine.

Through a comprehensive biomedical science curriculum, you will build a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology and have the chance to explore advanced topics such as biomanufacturing, biopharmaceuticals and forensic sciences. With hands-on learning in leading-edge research techniques, expert faculty will guide you through interactive lessons and laboratory sessions that bridge theory with real-world application. Graduates emerge prepared to meet industry demands and drive innovations in health and medicine.

What sets this program apart is our strong focus on hands-on development through two key components:

  • A workplace-integrated learning (WIL) experience provides a valuable field placement where you will apply your skills in real-world settings, gaining industry experience and professional connections that give you a competitive edge.
  • Over 300 hours in our state-of-the-art labs, performing leading-edge experiments using specialized equipment and innovative research techniques.

This combination of practical experience and advanced learning ensures you graduate with the expertise and confidence to excel in the field.

Get ready to take your learning to the next level with an unforgettable field placement experience! As part of the Biomedical Sciences program, you will have the opportunity to participate in a 14-week field experience that will immerse you in the professional world of biomedical sciences. Whether paid or unpaid, this full-time work experience is a game-changer, setting you up for career success and giving you a competitive edge upon graduation.

During the summer months between your third and fourth year, you will apply your knowledge in real-world settings, working in diverse environments such as leading-edge laboratories, innovative medical and scientific institutions, health-care organizations, or ambitious start-up enterprises aiming to change the world. You will be supported every step of the way by our dedicated work-integrated learning (WIL) officer, ensuring you have the guidance and resources to thrive in your new role.

The field placement experience bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. You could be supporting exciting ongoing research projects, collaborating with top-tier scientists, managing and analyzing experimental data, or contributing to groundbreaking discoveries. It is your chance to get experience in the field, gain invaluable professional experience and build your network with industry leaders.

To support you along the way, the WIL officer, program co-ordinator and expert faculty will be there throughout the entire experience. By the end of your field placement, you will return to your studies with a wealth of practical experience and a deeper understanding of the biomedical sciences field, ready to take on whatever comes next in your career.

Visit Future Students > Work-Integrated Learning to learn more about your WIL power and other success stories.

Also take time to explore the digital Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness Student Handbook to learn foundational WIL concepts plus requirements specific to this program.
