Humber’s Hospitality – Event Management diploma program provides you with the knowledge, skills, practical experience, industry exposure and professional certifications necessary to embark on an exciting and successful career as an event management professional.

Our program provides comprehensive learning and training opportunities to prepare students for valued positions in the event industry including:

  • catering co-ordinators and managers
  • event designers
  • event marketers
  • event venue managers
  • in-person and virtual event co-ordinators and managers
  • incentive trip and event co-ordinators and managers
  • on-site logistics staff
  • production staff
  • proposal writers
  • virtual, in person or hybrid event planners
  • wedding planners

In the first semester of the program, you learn the foundational aspects of event management and gain immediate industry experience through interacting with industry professionals and working at/participating in several events. For the next three semesters, you will be thoroughly immersed in the world of event management through building on your foundational knowledge, gaining hands-on experience through attending and working at events, interacting with industry professionals, planning and executing events, and completing an industry field experience. You will learn the essential skills to prepare you to be successful in the event career area of your choice.

In this program, you will participate in a comprehensive field experience (160 hours) in your final semester. During the field experience, you will apply the knowledge and skills you have learned in the classroom to real event work in the field, network, and develop professional connections and relationships you will carry with you throughout your career.

Admission Requirements

Admission selection is based on the following 3 requirements:

    Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
      • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
      • Three Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    University Transfer Applicants

    International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.
