Toronto is the second largest financial service centre in North America, and the practical, intensive training this program provides will make you an in-demand candidate for a career in:

  • accounts payable and receivable
  • cost accounting
  • general and payroll accounting
  • internal/external auditing
  • financial planning and analysis
  • financial and management accounting
  • tax auditing and preparation
  • compliance managing

Learn the inner workings of the accounting field from expert faculty who will teach you key concepts in current business administration and accounting practices such as International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and taxation related to buying, selling, financing and investing transactions. You will gain hands-on experience in the latest industry-standard software in our Accounting Centre and via an optional co-op work placement.

Work Placement

Optional Co-op Work Placement Program

There are a limited number of spaces for students to mix co-op work experience with their academic learning in alternating semesters through an optional co-op program. This co-op program is structured to include from one to three co-op work terms, taking place between academic terms. Participation in the co-op program may increase time to complete the diploma by one to three semesters. The optional co-op program provides students with an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Co-op work opportunities are not guaranteed, as students are in a competitive job placement market.

Students not selected for co-op placements will complete the standard 84-hour work placement course in their final semester. Through this course, they will put their accounting knowledge and skills into practice. Students find a placement with support from the business placement advisor who maintains a roster of placement opportunities and provides students with direction and assistance in the development of resumés and job search techniques.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Admission selection is based on the following 3 requirements:

    Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
      • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
      • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) or Grade 11 M or U Mathematics (MCF3M or MCR3U)
      • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

    or

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

Post-Admission Requirements

Once you have been accepted, and have confirmed your offer, you may need to complete a further set of requirements related to your program (Post-Admission Requirements).

Students are required to have a PC laptop and access to MS Office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PowerBI. Consideration of the length of battery life is also important as in class time, examinations can extend to 3+ hours. Recommended (Optional): an external wireless  mouse and an external plugin number pad to facilitate speed of accounting related functions.
