Humber's Academic Upgrading (AU) certificate program, offered at Humber's North Campus, is a free program that will give you the opportunity to become comfortable in a college environment while helping you to improve your essential English, math and computer skills with the option to build biology and chemistry skills. Academic Upgrading is an Employment Ontario program, funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development.

The faculty and staff in the program are committed to helping Academic Upgrading students form a clearer picture of their educational and career goals and determine the steps needed to reach those goals.

The AU program also offers students assistance in:

-  developing individualized training plans

-  defining career and educational goals

-  finding support and resources that lead to success

Note: Students can earn the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate by completing ACE Communications (ACEC E10), ACE Business Math (ACEC M20), and any two other ACE-level courses with a grade of 70 per cent or higher in each of the four ACE courses. In addition students with a GPA of 60% of higher are awarded a Humber Certificate of Completion.

This program is not available to international applicants.

Admission selection is based on an English and math assessment administered during one of the information sessions that applicants must attend.

  To qualify for the program, students must be:

  • 19 years of age or older
  • a resident of Ontario
  • legally able to work in Ontario
  • assessed in an information and assessment session

  Mature Applicants

  Diplomas and Certificates

  An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

  Degrees

  An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

  College Transfer Applicants

  Diplomas and Certificates

  An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

  Degrees

  An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

  University Transfer Applicants
