Today’s businesses know that it is critical to stay on top of what’s next in their industry: the next trend, the next tool, the next technology. They are developing capacity within their organizations to use big data to derive insights for a more profitable future. Businesses have a growing need for professionals who can use data, analytics and business acumen to improve ROI, streamline and expedite processes, drive down costs, create smart products, and build better customer experiences
Humber’s Business Insights and Analytics graduate certificate program provides you with practical, in-demand skills in business; database management and programming; data analysis and interpretation; and decision-making and communications. It consists of a common platform of 21 core courses in business, database management, programming for machine learning and data analytics, plus 3 specialization stream courses in either Marketing or Operations.

Graduates of this program will:

  • develop effective business strategies, tactics and processes based on data-driven analytics
  • support business decision making with advanced statistical and quantitative analysis; and advanced data visualization and communications tools and techniques
  • generate business insights by developing and using databases, big data and machine learning

Note: For students starting in September or January, there is a scheduled one semester break between second and third semester.

Get the hands-on experience that industry demands with a 320-hour (minimum) work placement that will give you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in the classroom to the real world. Students initiate the placement with the aid of faculty, targeting companies in the Greater Toronto Area. Placement may be completed on a part-time basis throughout the academic year, or full time during the term immediately following the program.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

    Academic

    To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

    • A bachelor’s degree from any discipline,

    OR

    • An advanced diploma or diploma in a related field (business, statistics/mathematics, or computer programming)

    Mature Applicants

    Diplomas and Certificates

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.

    Degrees

    An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.

    College Transfer Applicants

    An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

    Degrees

Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.

    International Credit Evaluation

    Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Additional Costs

BIA Students are required to bring their own computing device to class daily. At a minimum, this should be a recently purchased (last 18 months) laptop computer (not a notebook such as a Chromebook, or a tablet) running the Windows 10 operating system on an Intel i5-8300H processor (or equivalent) with 8GB RAM, 256GB HDD, built-in WiFi, a microphone, and a webcam. The program is best experienced on a laptop running Windows 10 with an Intel i7-9750H+ or higher processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, built-in WiFi, microphone, and a webcam. Required applications and programs will be made available by the college.

Note: An additional registration fee of $440 applies to placements completed after the final semester of this program.
