Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences

Honours Degree

Program Code: BM411

Campus: North

Length: 8 semesters

Biomedical science is a growing interdisciplinary field which supports the creation, revision and implementation of innovative methods to advance medicine and human health. Biomedical scientists integrate knowledge from numerous fields of study such as biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and paraclinical sciences. Through interprofessional collaboration, they use these skills to support the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis for various disorders and diseases, in addition to analyzing current and potential laboratory and computational analysis tools.

The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences program provides students with cutting-edge education, knowledge, skills and hands-on experience through classroom and laboratory-based learning that is underscored by a summer field experience.

This program develops career-ready graduates who contribute to the development of new therapies and approaches to enhance human health and wellness. Graduates may also choose to pursue higher and specialized education through masters and doctoral degrees, well as medical school, dentistry, pharmacy and many others.

You will participate in one mandatory paid or unpaid 14-week to gain full-time professional work experience. Students will work with, and be supported by, our workplace integrated learning officer throughout this process. The work experience takes place during the summer months between 3rd and 4th Year. Work will occur in diverse settings such as for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises, public or privately funded laboratories, governmental or educational institutions, or medical/scientific environments.

This experience will enhance the theoretical learning in the program, giving you hands-on application in the field of biomedical sciences. Work experiences may include supporting ongoing research, functioning as a collaborative member of a research team and/or creating, managing, reviewing, and communicating experimental data/findings. Students will be supported throughout their by program faculty and staff.
