Digital Communications, Bachelor of

Ministry Title: Bachelor of Digital Communications

Honours Degree

Program Code: DC411

Campus: Lakeshore

Length: 8 semesters starting in September

In the digital age, communicators have unprecedented reach to tell stories, share images and influence opinions. As many organizations adopt modern communication strategies, digital storytellers who are skilled in writing, visual communication, web applications and social media are becoming increasingly in demand. Graduates of this program may find positions in the digital media industry or as communication professionals within commercial, non-profit, governmental or other organizations.

Through this program, you will build significant business acumen, gain technical competency, and form communication and networking skills. Historical, legal, ethical and theoretical considerations are built into the creative process, and hands-on experience is gained through a work placement. A culminating capstone project acts as a platform for launching a career in digital and social media co-ordination, media relations, and many other mass communications fields.

Work Placement

Students will participate in one mandatory 14 week paid or unpaid work placement in the summer between Semester 6 and 7. This placement provides students with an opportunity to gain experience and meet professionals in the digital communications sector. Many of the placements are offered in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), a hub for the communications industry in Canada and home to numerous media, non-profit, marketing, public relations and other private sector companies.
