Humber’s Inclusive Resource Practice - Child and Family graduate certificate is the only program of its kind in Ontario. It is uniquely positioned to offer a lifespan approach to working with individuals in the disability sector. The program is scheduled over two semesters starting each year in September and creates opportunities for graduates to gain employment working with children, youth and adults in a variety of employment settings. The academic courses and first field placement are offered in an online synchronous and asynchronous delivery format meaning that your learning experience is a blend of online classes facilitated by program faculty combined with self-guided student learning. The second field placement, situated in the second semester of the program is an onsite practicum at an external partner agency.
The program prepares you to collaborate with a community of professionals, individuals and families to navigate a range of services in order to support inclusion. Students will advance their knowledge and expertise in the field of inclusion and develop an inclusive philosophy that they can apply in a variety of employment situations. Through our practical, skill-based curriculum, you will develop many valuable skills including how to:
- apply the principles of person-centred practice
- engage in responsive inclusive planning
- navigate systems for continuity of service
- implement a variety of tools and techniques that support holistic development
- transfer inclusive practice knowledge to community partners
- participate in research on a sector related topic of interest to the learner
Placements are pre-arranged by Humber at host agencies on behalf of the student. Placements make up approximately 380 hours of practice learning over the duration of the program.
Field placements position students to integrate theory and practice by working with industry professionals who provide services to children, youth, and adults with diverse abilities/special needs/disabilities and their families. Students engage in leadership opportunities within the role of the resource professional and gain insight and understanding as they work as a team member to assess, develop and recommend responsive inclusive plans. Students learn to work closely with inter-professional teams, and the community, to enhance person-centred practice and facilitate the process of inclusion.
Experiences may include a combination of direct and indirect roles working with individuals within community-based and government services; and agencies such as treatment centres, mental health agencies, child care centres, community living associations, elementary and high schools, colleges and multi-service agencies.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet all the requirements below in order to meet minimum program eligibility. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee an offer of admission. Admission decisions will be available via MyHumber, or by email and mail. Admission decisions will not be released by phone.

Academic
To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:
- An Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma or degree or a diploma or degree in a related discipline such as psychology or family sociology. Minimum grade point average of 70 per cent required. Course work in child development and special needs is an asset.
Mature Applicants
Diplomas and Certificates
An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet all listed course requirements.
Degrees
An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or attended postsecondary studies, and will be 21 or older as of the first day of classes. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U/M level or equivalent.
College Transfer Applicants
Diplomas and Certificates
An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility.
Degrees
An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. Applicants must have an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 65 per cent in the program. Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.
University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber may use a combination of secondary school and/or university courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

English Language Proficiency
All applicants whose first language is not English must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

International Credit Evaluation
Canadian citizens or permanent residents with international education are required to provide a credential evaluation. Note, for international High school education course by course evaluations, ICAS must be used. For international post-secondary education, a WES evaluation must be provided. In situations where you expect to apply for transfer credit, it is recommended that a course by course WES evaluation is completed.

Resume and Cover Letter
Applicants must submit a detailed cover letter highlighting prior education and experience that relates to working with children/adults with special needs and their families. In addition, a detailed resume listing all relevant placement, volunteer, and employment experience including the duration of time spent at each, is needed.

Placement Requirements
The pre-requisite requirements must be fulfilled before the commencement of your first placement. Participation in placements will not be allowed if not all the pre-requisite requirements are met. Additional Costs
Approximately $700 - textbooks, resources and supplies (per year). Transportation costs to and from field placements are the student's responsibility.
