Bachelor of Health Sciences – Workplace Health and Wellness

Honours Degree

Program Code: WW411

Campus: North

Length: 8 semesters

Humber’s Bachelor of Health Sciences – Workplace Health and Wellness degree is a unique honours degree program, the first of its kind in Canada. This program is multi-disciplinary in nature, drawing from the fields of leadership; mental, physical, and psychological health; business and communication; and knowledge translation. All combined, students acquire the competencies to develop proactive, evidence-based workplace health and wellness programs and health promotion programs. You will develop the skills to promote employee health, workplace culture, employee engagement and retention.

Using a team approach, learners will work collaboratively with one another and with faculty to apply key principles of workplace health and wellness to real world scenarios. Principles of equity, diversity, inclusion as well as ethical and legal practices are built into the content and application of your learning. Learners will be well prepared to help individuals and companies attain their health and wellness goals.

You will participate in one mandatory paid or unpaid 14-week work internship to gain full-time professional work experience. Work internship takes place during the summer months between 3rd and 4th Year. Work will occur in diverse settings such as for-profit or not-for-profit enterprises, health and wellness consulting firms, governmental or educational institutions, or other health and wellness environments.

The experience will enhance the theoretical learning in the program, giving you hands-on application in the field of workplace health and wellness. Work experiences might include successfully developing, evaluating and implementing a workplace health and wellness initiative; functioning as a member of a health and promotion team; working at a public health organization in knowledge translation; working in insurance companies; working with workplace insurance claims; and health promotion within a long-term care facility.
