Workplace Health and Wellness, Bachelor of Health Sciences

Ministry Title: Bachelor of Health Sciences – Workplace Health and Wellness

Honours Degree

Program Code: WW411

Campus: North

Length: 8 semesters starting in September

Many of Canada’s top employers have existing health and wellness programs, and more are implementing their own programs. Graduates of this unique program may find employment opportunities across a range of industries and environments including:

  • corporate wellness teams
  • disability management
  • government
  • health and wellness consulting firms
  • health education
  • non-profit organizations
  • public health

This program’s multi-disciplinary approach draws on fields incorporating human resources, communications, inter-professional practice, leadership and project management. Your new skillset will enable you to develop proactive, responsive, profitable and effective workplace health and wellness services within organizational settings. Principles of equity, diversity, ethical and legal practices, and knowledge translation are the foundation of your learning. This program includes a work placement.

You will participate in one mandatory paid or unpaid 14-week work internship to gain full-time professional work experience. Work internship takes place during the summer months between 3rd and 4th Year. Work will occur in diverse settings such as for-profit or not-for-profit enterprises, health and wellness consulting firms, governmental or educational institutions, or other health and wellness environments.

The experience will enhance the theoretical learning in the program, giving you hands-on application in the field of workplace health and wellness. Work experiences might include successfully developing, evaluating and implementing a workplace health and wellness initiative; functioning as a member of a health and promotion team; working at a public health organization in knowledge translation; working in insurance companies; working with workplace insurance claims; and health promotion within a long-term care facility.
