Psychological Crisis (Extreme Mental Distress)
A psychological crisis exists when an individual is threatening harm to:
- him or herself
- others
- campus property
- or is out of touch with reality due to a severe drug reaction or a psychotic break
A psychotic break may be manifested by hallucinations and/or uncontrollable behavior. The person could be a psychiatric patient walk-away.
If a psychological crisis occurs, take the following action:
- Never try to handle a situation you feel is dangerous on your own
- Notify the Department of Public Safety: call extension 4000 or 416-675-8500
- Clearly state that you need immediate assistance
- Give your name and your location
