Humber Statement About Learner Misconduct

November 2, 2021

The Real Estate Education Program, delivered by Humber Polytechnic takes matters of academic misconduct seriously. Academic integrity is critical to our institution and all our programs. The Real Estate profession rests on a foundation of honesty and integrity. Our program seeks to uphold these values and provide learners with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to enter the industry.

The Humber Real Estate Education Program is aware of learner misconduct regarding completion of program examinations. We have been investigating the matter. Our investigation to date has identified deliberate and organized misconduct. We will continue to monitor current and future exams and are reviewing previous exams to identify suspicious or misconduct behaviour.

Learners who have been found responsible for misconduct to date have been notified and have been sanctioned and suspended by the program. Those who, on the balance of probabilities, have been found guilty of misconduct and who have completed the pre-registration phase, will have their Humber completion status rescinded as they no longer satisfy the requirements for the program. We have also notified the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) of these cases of learner misconduct where a learner’s program completion status is rescinded. RECO will apply disciplinary action to these individuals as well, as required. Read RECO’s response to the misconduct on their website.

Real Estate Education Program learners are expected to act ethically, honestly and with integrity in all learning and professional matters. All learners are responsible for familiarizing themselves with and abiding by the policy on learner integrity. This responsibility includes giving due consideration to the deterrent effect of reporting such offences when they do occur, making one's disapproval of such behavior obvious, and helping to ensure that the Real Estate Education Program community does not encourage or facilitate learner dishonesty. We want to remind you that the program, and the college, take matters of academic misconduct seriously. Academic integrity is critical to our institution and all our programs. Please carefully review Learner Misconduct Policy and all other policies.
