As the sun sets on another incredible summer and we start a new academic year, it’s time to look back and celebrate all the amazing things we accomplished together this Summer 2024 term.
Record-breaking June Convocation:
6,800 grads walk the stage
This June, Humber proudly hosted eleven convocation ceremonies in our 57th year! With the highest number of RSVPs to date, 6,800 graduates crossed the stage. Hosting convocation is a tremendous effort, and it wouldn't be possible without our incredible RO staff and volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes and on-site to ensure the event goes smoothly.
Another highlight was Guelph-Humber's convocation on Monday at the Toronto Congress Centre. Previously held at a different venue, this move brought Guelph-Humber into the heart of our convocation celebrations, fostering a more unified and vibrant atmosphere for everyone.
The convocation celebrations didn't stop there—on August 20 and 21, we invited graduates who were unable to attend the ceremony to take graduation photos on campus. It was a well-attended event, with many supporters and families joining our graduates to celebrate their achievements.
Celebrating Excellence at the President's Breakfast
Truly going the extra mile, the RO was proud to celebrate the tremendous work and groundbreaking collaboration of the Convocation and the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) teams.
Accepting the award with our partners in ITS, GRMC, UofGH, Capital Development and Facilities Management, Advancement and Alumni and Public Safety, Convocation Chair Rhonda Harrison was proud to represent the RO team who pushed the boundaries of this milestone event and welcomed UofGH to the week of celebrations at the Toronto Congress Centre.
Collaborating at all levels to respond to the Canadian government’s announced changes to the international study permit process, Jennifer Muldoon, Nora Komeng and Julie Stewart gladly represented the RO and International team who made it possible for Humber to be the first in Ontario to issue Provincial Attestation Letters and continue to support international student enrolment for the summer term and beyond.
Working tirelessly to support student and create opportunities to be recognized for their experience and achieve their goals, the RO gave all the flowers to Student Mobility Advisor Chiara Filicetti as she received a much-deserved Support Staff Distinguished Service Award.
The RO applauds all the award recipients who made a real impact this past year. You can check out the full list on the President's Awards 2024 page.
Summer Info Sessions were a hit!
This summer, Recruitment pulled off an exciting hybrid event that was a hit both in-person and online! The online Summer Info Sessions racked up 2,635 views on YouTube, attracting a global audience from South Africa to China, Vietnam, and across Canada. The in-person sessions were equally popular, with 166 sessions and 215 tours, allowing prospective students to meet with a recruitment officer, explore our vibrant campus and labs, and receive support on the application process.
Contests Boost Fall Confirmations
The RO continued to drive the Fall 2024 conversion campaign with contests held this past Spring and this Summer over the Canada Day and Civic Holiday long weekends. Each contest had a different theme, starting with Choose to Celebrate You and Your Future is Looking Bright, and encouraged students to confirm their Fall 2024 offer for a chance to win a $200 Humber Campus Store gift card. As a result, the number of confirmations went up, in some cases over 50 per cent compared to the same timeframe last year!
Missing Requirements? Get Eligible!
This summer, Admissions hosted three "Get Eligible" virtual events, giving students a one-on-one-experience with the Admissions team. The event was designed to support students who have missing requirements, ensuring they have everything needed to "Get Eligible" for the Fall term.
One of the main goals was to reach out to applicants who applied to our hidden gem programs—those with lower enrolment but exceptional job prospects. These programs, though often overlooked, offer students the chance to explore specialized fields with significant career potential.
The feedback has been fantastic! Many students appreciated the support with their application. Stay tuned for more initiatives as we gear up for the upcoming Winter semester!
International Admissions Road Map Gets a Fresh Look!
We're thrilled to announce that with the humber.ca/international web refresh, an International Admissions Road Map was created to support enrolment going into the next academic cycle. This new, user-friendly guide provides a detailed, step-by-step breakdown of the application process, making it easier for international students to navigate.
