What is Stepping Up?

Stepping Up is a peer-to-peer program in collaboration with Humber College and Yellow Brick House that engages students in creating solutions to dating violence. Peer Facilitators will develop their own curriculum in four areas:Healthy Relationships, Sexual Relationships, Bystander Intervention, and Gender & Media. Supported by Yellow Brick House's Public Education Coordinator, these facilitators will lead activities and discussions with a larger group of students, with the end goal of developing community prevention projects for the Humber community. Stepping Up has been generously funded by Ontario Trillium Foundation.

What do Peer Facilitators do?

Peer Facilitators will work as part of a team of other peers with whom they will share responsibility for developing and delivering content for one or two of 4 main categories: Healthy Relationships, Sexual Relationships, Bystander Intervention, and Gender & Media. Peer Facilitators will also carry out a community project with program participants. As an integral member of Stepping Up, Peer Facilitators will contribute to awareness-raising, events or online and on-campus campaigns. A Committee of advisors and community supports (e.g., Humber Staff, and Yellow Brick House’s Public Education Coordinator) will assist Peer Facilitators throughout, and provide training and coaching on curriculum development and the workshop facilitation process. Participants will be provided with a certificate of completion, Co-Curricular Record validation, and an honorarium upon completing the volunteer position.

Peer Facilitators must commit to Stepping Up from November 2021 to April 2022.
