We are looking for a Communications and Events Intern to support the Office of Sustainability’s communications projects, initiatives and events. The successful applicant’s main responsibility is to support the engagement of students, staff and faculty through our social media accounts; assist with the development of social media campaigns; help coordinate our events; and, assist with event planning and execution (examples: pop-up sustainability tables, Orientation fairs, annual Humber Earth Week and a Sustainability Symposium). Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assembling communication packages, creating copy for publicity campaigns, research sustainability topics to support our social media posts, website and other educational resources, and performing administrative tasks when necessary.

  • Contract period: 1 year
  • Full-time position, 35 hours per week (hourly pay)
  • Role reports to Sustainability Specialist, but will work with all members of the team, as well as Humber students, staff and faculty

Knowledge, skills, abilities required: 

  • Graduate of a Communications degree, diploma or post-graduate program or related field; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Great working independently and in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter with the desire and ability to work with little supervision, and in a team
  • Multitasker
  • Professional demeanor
  • A solid understanding of digital marketing and social media analytics
  • Sustainability knowledge and passion, as well as event planning experience are considered assets

Essential functions in this role (day to day you can expect to): 

  • Write and prepare all social media campaigns and posts
  • Research sustainability topics and relate them to Humber’s initiatives for campaigns and events
  • Assist with all promotion, communications and event planning, coordination and management
  • Help to maintain a fun and collaborative culture in the office
  • Engaging and organizing event volunteers
  • Work with the graphic design team member to prepare communication materials
  • Work with various Humber staff across college 
  • Other duties as assigned
