Part-time faculty are uniquely adept at refreshing elements of their craft to adapt to new teaching and learning contexts that demand the utmost flexibility and innovation. These skills are valuable in that they resonate with learners who are exposed to new digital tools, resources, content, and teaching approaches. In the past year, faculty have worked to rebuild as they fill the void left by the pandemic. This conference provides an opportunity for self-reflection and goal setting as we regenerate our practice in a post-COVID world.

EdTech Tool: Foster collaboration and community with Miro

Miro is an online collaborative whiteboard. Miro allows students and teachers to work together and participate in icebreakers, brainstorming sessions, create concept maps, deliver presentations, and more. The Education Plan is free and includes all the major features. In this session, we will explore the tool’s main features and experience it from the student and teacher perspective. By the end of this session, participants will reflect on opportunities to build community and foster collaboration through the thoughtful use of educational technology tools.

Part-time faculty often work across multiple institutions, each having access to different online resources. Using open-access journals and eBooks is one way faculty can work to ensure student access to course resources regardless of institution or physical location.

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, how we work as educators and live as human beings underwent radical change almost overnight. As a result, stress levels soared, mental health diminished, and our overall well-being suffered. The sudden demands of this new reality are straining and the risk of burnout is real.

This talk will explore practical strategies for self-care and provide tools for sustaining healthy lifestyle changes, especially when change is hard. Participants will be equipped with resources and suggestions for supporting physical, mental, social, and emotional wellness as we continue to move forward during these uncertain times.

Using Text Expander to Simplify Your Feedback Workflow

TextExpander is a cross-platform tool for text expansion on your computer or mobile device. This allows you to store and recall your most frequently used text “snippets”, whether they be email addresses, Blackboard Collaborate links, paragraphs of text, images or fill-in forms… all with just a few keystrokes! In this session, you’ll learn how to use TextExpander to improve the quality of your written student feedback and save time.
