Toronto, Ontario - Humber College has received a donation from NBCUniversal to support the next generation of Canadian film and media industry professionals and creators.

NBCUniversal and Humber have created the NBCUniversal NextGen Diversity scholarships to help equip and train students studying in Film and Media-related programs at Humber who self-identify as Indigenous peoples, women, or racialized persons. The scholarships were developed to help foster a future media landscape that is more diverse and inclusive.

"Today's film and media sector in Canada is drastically different, and the need for diverse talent at every level and facet of the industry is greater than ever before. What remains unchanged is that education is the first entry point to the industry," said Guillermo Acosta, senior dean, Faculty of Media & Creative Arts, Humber College." By establishing these scholarships, NBCUniversal is demonstrating their commitment to education and diversity in their field, a commitment that echoes the role Humber plays in the sector."

Through this gift, students in Film and Media Production, Film and TV Production, Post-Production, Film and Multiplatform storytelling, and TV Writing and Producing will be able to apply for one of the 20 scholarships starting in January 2022.

Humber has raised more than $45 million towards its $50 million Unlimited campaign with this gift.

The Humber Cultural Hub (HCH) at the Lakeshore campus will be home to programs that build the next generation of artistic, cultural and creative leaders. It will inspire creativity, support a connected community, encourage public appreciation of the arts and offer world-class film, media and performance facilities. The HCH is supported in part by Humber’s Unlimited campaign.
