Students who graduated from Humber Polytechnic’s Protection, Security and Investigation program will have a guaranteed offer of full-time employment thanks to a partnership agreement with Paragon Security.
It’s believed to be the first-of-its-kind hiring initiative at Ontario’s 24 colleges and polytechnics.
The agreement was reached in August and, over the next year, Humber and Paragon will collaborate on operationalizing this process that will allow interested Protection, Security and Investigation graduates to opt-into a Paragon-led employment process to secure full-time employment.
"We are so pleased by this unique, first-of-its-kind hiring partnership with Paragon Security, which recognizes the outstanding employability of our PSI graduates,” said Nivedita Lane, associate dean, Justice, Faculty of Social and Community Services. “PSI students develop a comprehensive set of skills and competencies that make them attractive to employers across the justice sector, a sector that is experiencing high labour market demand for qualified employees in Canada. As a unique offering within the Justice cluster at Humber Polytechnic, the PSI program is well situated as a launching pad into exciting, evolving career pathways in justice. We are excited that graduates of our program will have the opportunity to pursue full-time employment with Paragon if they choose and thank Paragon for their endorsement of our graduates."
This employment pipeline differs from those offered to graduates from apprenticeship programs because it’s being facilitated directly by an industry partner and the offer is open to all Protection, Security and Investigation graduates.

“Our partnership with Humber’s PSI program is more than a hiring pipeline - it’s an investment in the future of professional security,” said Robert Bartlett, vice-president - HR and Training, Paragon Security. “Humber graduates arrive with the right blend of technical knowledge, practical training and professionalism that aligns perfectly with Paragon’s standards of service. Their readiness for real-world environments strengthens our teams, enhances client confidence and supports our commitment to developing talent from within the communities we serve. We’re proud to provide meaningful career pathways for PSI graduates and excited about the long-term impact this partnership will continue to have on our organization and the industry as a whole.”
Humber’s PSI program stands out in the sector as it has private investigator licensing built into the curricula as well as a comprehensive STEM-heavy curriculum that touches upon intelligence analysis, risk and threat assessment, security management, global crime and Canadian security, diversity and ethics, as well introductory and advanced cybersecurity.
There’s a career mentorship program for final semester students that matches graduating students with working professionals in the field. In addition, there’s embedded simulation learning and an advanced capstone course with a focus on surveillance and investigative interviewing. It also offers discounted basic security and CPR training through industry partners.
The program prepares graduates for a variety of careers including corporate and private security, law enforcement and border services, corrections, public safety, investigations and intelligence analysis, and entry-level cyber security.
