Humber Polytechnic has renewed an agreement with Northeastern University in Toronto that provides a pathway from the polytechnic to Master’s degree studies at the university’s Toronto campus.

For the next five years, Humber graduates from the Business Insights and Analytics, Cloud Computing, Information Technology Solutions, Wireless Telecommunications, Enterprise Software Development and Project Management programs will receive up to 12 transfer credits towards Master’s degree studies at Northeastern. The eligible Master’s programs are Master of Professional Studies in Analytics, Master of Professional Studies in Informatics and Master of Science in Project Management.

“This renewed agreement with Northeastern University in Toronto is more than just a pathway — it’s a recognition of the depth and quality of Humber’s graduate certificates. It reflects our commitment to applied learning that leads directly to advanced education and high-impact careers,” said Francis Syms, associate dean, Information and Communications Technology with the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology at Humber.

Amin Fakhri is a graduate of the Cloud Computing program who’s currently enrolled at Northeastern University in Toronto in the Master of Professional Studies in Informatics with a concentration on Information Security Management. He started classes in January and, thanks to his prior learning at Humber being worth 12 of the Master’s program’s 45 credits, may be eligible to graduate in about a year.

“The experience I gained in Cloud Computing was important as I learned a lot and I have to give credit to Humber for helping me on my journey,” said Fakhri.

Fakhri, who holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Dubai, was working as a delivery driver in Niagara during COVID-19 when he discovered the Humber program. He called the program coordinator and asked whether the program would help him find a job after completion, as it required full-time commitment and meant he would have to quit his job. He decided to leave his job to enrol in the program and is glad he did, as it set him on a path that is now leading to a Master’s degree.

After graduating from Humber, he found a job working for the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology as a technologist. That helped him gain experience and confidence and made him hungry to learn more. It was then he started thinking about completing a Master’s and ultimately found the pathway to Northeastern University in Toronto.

“I would encourage anyone who’s looking to earn their Master’s and also wants to improve their technical and management skills to consider Cloud Computing at Humber and then a move to Northeastern’s Toronto campus for the Master’s program,” said Fakhri, adding the recognition of prior learning was the equivalent of four courses that dramatically cut down the amount of time it will take to receive his Master’s.
