The nominees for the JUNO Awards have been announced and there are a number of Humber Polytechnic connections among them.
The 54th annual JUNO Awards happen March 30 in Vancouver and are an annual celebration of the best of Canadian music.
This year's JUNOs includes several Humber-affiliated nominees, including Music and Comedy program alumni and faculty.
Jazz Album of the Year (Solo)
Portrait of Right Now by Jocelyn Gould – Gould is a former Humber Bachelor of Music professor.
Slice of Life by Larnell Lewis – Lewis is a Humber Music alumnus and a Humber Music faculty member.
Lewis says the album celebrates fatherhood and the influence of his Caribbean heritage. “Slice of Life is a snapshot of my life right now.” says Lewis. “This album shares my life not just as a musician, but also as a composer. The introspective journey of Slice of Life is a lot deeper in terms of meaning and life experience. Typically, I do a lot of soloing and intense drumming. On Slice of Life I wanted to highlight the full musicality of these songs. In fact, the drums were probably the last thing I thought about.”
Vocal Jazz Album of the Year
Hello! How Are You? by Caity Gyorgy – Gyorgy is a Humber Bachelor of Music alumna.
Wintersongs by Laila Biali – Biali is a Humber Music (Keyboard) alumna.
Children’s Album of the Year
Buon Appetito by Walk off the Earth and Romeo Eats – Humber Introduction to Commercial Jazz Music alumnus Joel Cassady is a member of the band.
Comedy Album of the Year
Honourable Intentions by Debra DiGiovanni – DiGiovanni is a Comedy: Writing and Performance alumna.
