TORONTO, ONTARIO - Humber College was recently honoured on the national stage for outstanding achievements by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan). The college was awarded Gold for Indigenous Education Excellence and Bronze for Internationalization Excellence at the 2021 CICan Connection Virtual Conference.
“These awards acknowledge Humber’s ongoing commitment to preparing all students to become global citizens in an increasingly interconnected world,” said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO, Humber College. “They also recognize our collective efforts to highlight and embed Indigenous education in our curriculum so all students may benefit.”
Humber’s Gold award for Indigenous Education Excellence recognizes its strong ties with local Indigenous communities and its ongoing commitment to weaving Indigenous Ways of Being, Knowing and Doing into activities and initiatives. Humber has been a leader in Indigenous education and engagement for several years and was one of the first colleges to sign on to the CICan Indigenous Education Protocol. The college has two Indigenous Resource Centres and provides a wide range of programs and services for Indigenous students and the broader community.
The college was also the Bronze award recipient for Internationalization Excellence Award, which recognizes the leadership in internationalizing the institution to benefit its learners and community. Humber developed a comprehensive, integrated approach to its internationalization efforts and its Strategic Plan focuses on the importance of helping students become global citizens with the knowledge and skills required to lead and innovate.
The CICan Awards are awarded annually and recognize best practices from institutions across the country and individual leadership and achievements. Since 2015, Humber has received seven awards, two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
