TORONTO, ONTARIO - Humber College is the first Ontario college to sign on as an educational partner with Accelerate Her Future (AHF). AHF is a career accelerator providing tailored programs for self-identifying Black, Indigenous and women of colour (BIWOC) to launch their careers in business and technology while building solidarity, allyship, and action networks.
“This partnership between Humber and AHF, facilitated by our Community Outreach and Workforce Development department, will help increase access for equity-deserving groups as they plan for their future careers,” said Gina Antonacci, senior vice-president, Academic. “Humber is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and this will help support these priorities with access to mentorships, career learning tailored to their needs, network-building and better pathways to employment during their academic journey.”
Accelerate Her Future is hosting a virtual summit for self-identifying Black, Indigenous and women of colour (BIWOC) pursuing careers in business and STEM from November 5 to 7, 2021. At the summit, Humber students, recent graduates and alumni will have the chance to connect with their community and hear changemaker talks, engage in learning sessions, grow their networks, and meet recruiters at the Career Expo.
“Educational partnerships with post-secondary institutions such as Humber are essential in helping enhance our ecosystem toward more equitable outcomes for brilliant students and graduates for whom our programs are created.” said Dr. Golnaz Golnaraghi, founder, Accelerate Her Future. “At AHF we have a ‘nothing for us, without us’ philosophy and are committed to co-creating programs with, for and by self-identifying Black women, Indigenous women, and other women of colour to thrive and flourish in their careers of choice.”
The Educational Partnership with the college will also support access to AHF’s Fellowship Circle, particularly for students and graduates from the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology and the Faculty of Business. This by-application program is designed by and for BIWOC and helps build the foundation to accelerate a career in business and STEM, through small group mentorship, career learning labs, and networking opportunities.
Applications for the Winter 2022 Fellowship Circle are open until November 21.
