Toronto, Ontario - Humber College and GlobalMedic have partnered to create short first-aid video demonstrations that will be sent to the people in Ukraine along with emergency first-aid medical supplies.
As of March 20, there have been more than 1,500 civilian injuries caused by the war in Ukraine. With Ukraine’s healthcare network pushed to the brink, a group of Humber’s Paramedic students will demonstrate several first-aid procedures in a series of how-to videos for ordinary citizens who have no first-aid experience but may need to perform them at this time. All videos will also be translated from English to Ukrainian.
The videos will accompany 5,000 first-aid kits that GlobalMedic will be sending to Ukraine.
GlobalMedic is using one of Humber’s healthcare labs to record the how-to videos and paramedic students will be helping with the demonstrations. The videos will be directed, shot and edited by students in the Film and Television Production program.
Rahul Singh, who graduated from Humber’s Paramedic program in 1993, founded GlobalMedic in 1998. The aid organization is staffed entirely by Humber graduates. In 2011, Rahul won the Premier’s Award as an Outstanding Health Sciences graduate.
GlobalMedic is working with local agencies in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries to support the distribution of food hygiene items, helping people leave Ukraine, and working to support and facilitate cross-border distributions into Ukraine.
