Many Humber College alumni go on to enjoy successful careers and do special things following graduation.

We wanted to connect with some of our recent graduates ahead of the Humber Alumni Weekend 2022 to find out how Humber helped in their journey to success.

We recently sat down with Emma Kilgannon to ask a series of questions about what the future holds for her following her graduation from Humber College.

HT: What program did you graduate from and when?

EK: I graduated from the Baking and Pastry Arts Management program just a few months ago in April.  

HT: What are your plans now that you’ve graduated?

EK: Even though I have graduated, I've been staying connected by training in Humber’s lab space for the WorldSkills Confectionary competition. I’m currently practicing about 30 to 40 hours a week, and then I'll be heading to Switzerland next month to compete. Once the competition is finished, however, I plan to explore my career options in different sections of the pastry industry, and work towards getting my Red Seal Certification.  

HT: How did Humber set you up for success?

EK: Throughout my two-year program, Humber gave me plenty of opportunities to meet new people and form connections. There was a lot of room for growth within the classes I took as my professors gave me helpful and insightful criticism that allowed me to continue improving my skills and techniques.  

HT: What was your favourite memory during your time at Humber?

EK: My favourite memories from Humber were all of the times between classes when my friends and I would sit together in the cafeteria and have our lunch. I remember us always laughing and telling funny stories about our classes. Even though some of my friends have since moved away to begin their careers, we still keep in touch and I am grateful that I was able to make friends for life here.  

HT: Do you plan on staying involved with the Humber community as an alumnus?

EK: I definitely plan to stay involved with the Humber community as an alumnus in whatever opportunities present themselves to me. There are so many wonderful individuals, such as the pastry chefs who taught me, that I have met along the way who I hope to always stay in touch with. And, with my aspirations to teach pastry classes in my future, maybe I will end up back at Humber someday teaching new students.
